We just had the best weekend ever! We headed out of town early Friday morning to head to Florida to meet with our birth mom. Because of some struggles she had been having lately, we were unsure if she would be able to make the appointment.
This whole journey has been one of taking risks and faith, so we said, “Let’s just go.” Yes, it is a 12 hour drive and some people might call us crazy, but we just decided to do it. We had this appointment set since last month, and we were just going in faith. I kept praying that our birth mom would get an amazing night’s rest and feel wonderful on Saturday and be up for coming to her ultrasound.
We had this appointment for a 3D/4D ultrasound and have been ecstatic since it was set. First thing Saturday morning, I got a phone call from our birth mom and my immediate thought was that she was calling to say she wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be able to make it. Instead, she said she was feeling better that day than she had in weeks and couldn’t wait to see us. Isn’t God so good when he answers prayers so clearly?
So, she met us at the ultrasound boutique, and we had one of the most amazing experiences of our lives.
We see our baby. We see her hair- yes, lots of hair. We see her big pouty lips and her sweet button nose. She is gorgeous and we are obsessed. Seriously.
It is hard to contain your emotions in that ultrasound room. We were so overcome with emotion, but we were trying to be mindful of our amazing birth mom as the process was exciting for her, but one of the most bittersweet things she has ever experienced.
Our ultrasound tech was amazing. She was incredibly nervous doing this ultrasound, and she did so well balancing excitement and being understanding of our birth mother’s feelings. It was such a God-filled morning in every single way.
It felt as closely as it could to an ultrasound of our biological baby. We had to stop ourselves so many times from saying, “She has your nose,” or “Your cheeks” or “Your lips.” It is amazing how God has made this baby so clearly ours.
After the ultrasound, the three of us went to eat lunch. We had such a wonderful time spending quality time with the woman carrying our baby. I can’t tell you how much we love this girl. Yes, our baby and her birth momma.
The connection is so real. To come from 2 completely different walks of life and to have such a connection. It is so God-infused I can’t even explain it to people. It is one of the coolest, nearest to God feelings I’ve ever had.
After an amazing lunch filled with lots of laughs and tears, we brought our birth mom to her mom and got to meet her! Her mom was incredible. You could tell the weight of the world was lifted off of her shoulders to know her granddaughter is going to be so loved and adored.
After visiting with her mom and discussing the practicalities of the birth process, we left with lots of hugs and “I love yous.” We love these people. They are our family, and they will always be a part of her, regardless of the relationship. Knowing and loving them well is so incredibly important to us.
Then, we got in the car and headed to Pathway Church in Mobile, AL. This was the same church we spoke at 2 years ago and shared my cancer healing story. We created many relationships there, and the church is incredible. Well, this year, they had Lysa Terkeurst as their speaker (they’ve really gone downhill in the speaker department after us:)) and asked if we would share an update before she spoke.
It was amazing! So incredible to see so many friendly faces. We got to eat dinner with Lysa and so enjoyed getting to know her and the incredible people at Pathway.
Then, it was a surprise that we were at Pathway, so when we came onstage, it was amazing to see everyone so excited. We felt so loved. These people have prayed us to this point and to see their faces and support meant the absolute world to us. It was an INCREDIBLE night. And to top it off, they got us our first baby item on our registry- our stroller!:)
It was an incredible weekend. We got to see our perfect miracle baby. And we got to update prayer warriors of our continued miracle story.
It was a weekend that reminded me of where we’ve been, all that God has done, and all He will continue to do. He amazes me. Really blows me away.
God I praise you!
