Dear Genevieve, You’re Two Months Old

Dear Genevieve,

I wish you could stay 2 months old forever.

I’m sure every age gets better and better, but this is THE best.

You are such a happy baby.

You smile all the time now! And you are laughing. My heart could literally explode when I see those eyes smile and hear your sweet belly laugh.

You are still a squirmer.

You are still the best little cuddler when you’re sleepy.

You make parenting look easy because you are such a good baby. Can you just tell your future siblings to be just like you?

Thank you for sleeping so well and being so predictable…we’ll see if that carries over as time goes on:)

You are beautiful in every way. Really, you are stunning.

You are so special. Really, you are.

I look into your beautiful, piercing blue eyes and just see all the amazing things God has planned for your life.

Your daddy and I adore you. We honestly do.

You were ALWAYS wanted and loved. Every part of your family loves you. We just met with your biological grandmother, great-grandmother, half-brother, and your aunt. They adore you too. How could they not?

We all know that you are OURS. It is amazing to continue to see how God has ordained you to be ours from the beginning of time. Your birth family this past week went on and on about how much you even look like us!

Never forget that God cares about EVERY detail of your life. It’s amazing to think that He loves you even more than daddy and I do. Seems impossible, but guess what- God does the impossible.

As you trust in Him and grow in Him, you will see that all throughout your precious life.

You are a treasure. You are an angel and we love you forever.

Sorry it has been a while since I have written! We have been busy with the end of the school year and lots of traveling! We just got back from the beach and I plan on blogging about that later this week!

Since Genevieve’s birth, lots of people have asked about our relationship with her birth mother and how we foresee things going forward. We are planning on having an open adoption. We plan to send pictures and updates as often as we can.

We also hope to visit Genevieve’s birth family as time allows. The first two dates we agreed to do this was at the end of May and then we will meet again in August.

So, we headed to Florida for us to meet her birth family about 2 weeks ago, and it was WONDERFUL. I was of course really nervous about it, but it really was wonderful.

G did great on the 12 hour car ride. The only hiccup we had on the trip was that our AC went out.

Yes, you read that right- Our AC! AHHH!

I am so thankful to be married to a husband who can most of the time “laugh things off.” Because when we realized it was noontime, the AC was out and we we had no place to stop for about an hour—we are all sweating, and we have a 10 week old baby in the back of our car—we could have panicked.

Yes, I may have been panicking a little bit on the inside, but that wouldn’t have changed anything. So, we tried to laugh and look at it as “making a memory”—easier said than done:)

So…..we just laughed and sweated and prayed. We finally made it to Mobile, and our poor Vievey was soaked with sweat. Broke this momma and daddy’s heart.

We stripped her down in the auto shop and hung out there for about 5 hours until our AC was fixed. We were back on the road in no time…

She is such a little trooper. She didn’t skip a beat and she slept awesome in hotels.

We met with the birth family that morning for about two hours. They were able to love on her, feed her, and see her precious smiles and most of all just admire her.

We were disappointed that her birth mother wasn’t able to be there.  She really wanted to! She is really struggling- would you lift her up in prayer? I did talk to her though, and she plans to be there in August.

I just kept praying that it would go well and that whoever was supposed to come would come and I trust in the Lord’s answers to prayer.

I was reminded just talking to her family what a miracle it is that she is really ours. As we learn more information, we are reminded of the miracle that took place in that waiting room. Too much to write in a blog post, but the details are just jaw-dropping.

We then went and visited the nurses at the hospital where Genevieve was born. Oh, it was so good to see them! We delivered books, visited, and they were able to see this angel that they had been on their knees so much for.

So many nurses said they would go off into other rooms and get on their knees and pray for our sweet baby. Oh, how prayer changes EVERYTHING!

Now that Genevieve is ours and we are removed from her birth, people are more free with details they are able to tell us about her becoming ours. Whether it is from the birth family, or nurses, or our attorney, we are continually brought to our knees in thankfulness of how every detail came together.

One of our nurses reminded us of the word “suddenly”. We were talking about the miracle of everything changing in an instant and she said that they word “suddenly” is mentioned 87 times in the Bible.

When all hope seems lost, when everything you have hoped for seems like it is crashing down, SUDDENLY, the situation can change.

Never stop hoping, never stop praying. He is faithful.

He has shown himself faithful to us in these first 2 months. In our first visit with G’s birth family. In remembering her miracle with her sweet nurses. And even faithful when our AC goes out in our car.

I am thankful He remains faithful even when we are not. But I also know he rewards our faith. Stay faithful! It is worth it.

“If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.” 2 Timothy 2:13

“The LORD rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed.” 1 Samuel 26:23

I see it every day with my life and looking into my daughter’s sweet blue eyes.
